A room in a shared flat

German students love to live in shared flats – or WG (Wohngemeinschaft) how we call it here. You can find numerous room offers on portals like www.wg-gesucht.de  and www.studenten-wg.de.

In general, you also “apply” for a room in a shared flat, although it is much less official. The residents often request a nice little mail and will contact you if they are interested. During the selection process they normally invite the applicants to see the room and to get to know them. But don’t worry! Often you can also visit via Skype-call. Don’t be afraid to ask for that.

Other options

  • The international Programs Office of Pforzheim University sends an updated list of rooms, apartments, etc. to all international exchange students

  • The Bernhardusheim  & the Kolpinghaus offer single, double and triple rooms for pupils, trainees, interns and students

  • The students’ council AStA publishes regularly a housing list with room offers – you can find it on their website.
